"The urgent challenge to protect our shared home includes the concern to unite the entire human family in the search for sustainable and integral development" (Laudato Si', 13).

In a global context increasingly marked by instability, conflicts and unprecedented climate crises, the urgency of collective and established actions emerges to respond to the environmental and social challenges we face. Geopolitical instabilities and extreme weather phenomena are just some of the consequences of a world in which natural balance has been seriously compromised, loudly calling for the need to adopt a long-term vision to build a more sustainable, resilient and just future.

A partnership in favour of sustainability
The collaboration between AzzeroCO2 and Nova Opera, launched on the occasion of the Concert with the Poor 2024, was born from a shared vision and a profound affinity in values. It is a synergy built on the belief that sustainability is not an objective to be achieved in a specific sector, but a common path that unites environment, social and governance.

AzzeroCO2 has been involved in sustainability consultancy for 20 years, supporting the construction of a vision of a fairer and more sustainable world. It has been designing and creating solutions that allow the creation of shared well-being for companies and public bodies, reducing their impact on the environment.

Both realities share the idea, expressed in Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si', that the Earth is our “shared home", and that every human action must respect it as such. The link between ecology and social justice is indissoluble and this awareness, which the Pope calls "integral ecology," underlines that "everything is connected", recalling the responsibility of every person, company and institution to take care of the environment as the foundation of common good.

The project: solidarity olive trees. A sustainable future must be an inclusive future

The collaboration led to the development of a project in favour of the environment and social equity. AzzeroCO2 and Nova Opera will create an olive grove within Ortofrutteto Solidale Diffuso campaign. 150 olive trees - a symbol of reconciliation - will take root at the Capodarco Agricultural Social Cooperative, where the themes of welcome and solidarity, towards and with those who live in disadvantaged conditions, merge with constant action, orientated towards social inclusion and work integration. The plants will make it possible to expand an existing olive grove and to give continuity to the projects already started by the cooperative together with the guests, who will also take care of the maintenance of the olive grove. Sustainability, for AzzeroCO2 and Nova Opera, means also social justice, a vision that reflects the words of Fratelli Tutti, who invite a supportive and inclusive humanity, in which "no one is left behind".  

A bookmark to educate, engage and take action

The Concert with the Poor will be an opportunity to give the project launched an educational value. The evening includes the distribution of useful bookmarks to inform all those who will take part in the event about the collaboration in favor of sustainability, but also to raise public awareness on the topic of sustainability and encourage greater environmental awareness. A QR code placed on the bookmark will allow you to participate in a quiz, designed to explore in a simpler way how informed you are on topics related to sustainability. Through current questions on different environmental topics, the quiz not only measures knowledge, but also provides information that allows participants to reflect and learn. The idea of ​​using a bookmark as a vehicle for raising awareness comes from its very nature: it is a familiar, small and useful object, which accompanies us in moments of reading and personal reflection. Furthermore, it is made of plantable paper, because flowers can grow from the seeds contained inside: an ecological choice that evokes the idea that from every small gesture new ones can sprout.

The beginning for a continuous commitment

The Concert with the Poor initiative is only the first step of a shared path that aims to develop new projects, combining environmental and social commitment. In the wake of the SDG objectives, the partners aim to develop initiatives that promote sustainable and inclusive development, in which ecological issues are integrated with social ones.

The solidarity olive grove

The olive grove will be made up of 150 olive trees of native cultivars which will be planted within the municipality of Rome at the historic Mistica estate, home of the Capodarco Social Agriculture Cooperative, which hosts disadvantaged individuals. Here organic production is promoted in association with social agriculture in a virtuous process that holds together the high ecological and social value.

    Benefits

    The solidarity olive grove brings together social inclusion, agriculture and the protection of biodiversity with the aim of giving a second chance to those in difficulty and at the same time contributing to the resilience of communities. The implementation of this project will contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) 3, 13, 15.
